Fusion pioneered the concept of on-site automatic butt fusion machines, with the introduction of the FAST range in the mid 80's. The original design brief was to make the butt fusion process simple to perform and absolutely foolproof.

FOOLPROOF
All pipe jointing parameters,and welding profiles are pre-programmed.
Operator follows on- screen step by step instructions.
The machine will not allow the operator to by-pass operation or perform them incorrectly.
 
SECURE
The supervisor or engineer can select the pipe joining programme and lock this in. This prevents the operator welding with incorrect parameters.
The software can be programmed, so that on machine start up it identifies the name company owning the equipment. It also lists the company name on the data print out and in the data transfer documents

Designed specifically to minimise weight for ease of handling on site.
 
SERVICE PROMPTS
The machine is programmed to alert the operator when it requires a service on completing a set number of joints or after a preset period.
 
OPERATONAL FEATURES
The FAST range of machine apply 100% control to all aspects of the jointing process. This is achieved by the use of a linear transducer (electronic micrometer ) which monitors and controls all pipe clamp movement during drag measurement, trimming, pipe slip testing, opening, closing, heating, bead formation, jointing and cooling. The built-in computer also receives continuous pressure, temperature and real time information which interact with the linear movement data to control the process and inform the operator. For example, bead size is directly controlled by measuring the forward movement of the clamps and is therefore independent of ambient temperature.
PATENTED 'Z' LINKAGE
Fast heater plate ejection and machine closure is vital prevent chilling of the heater pipe ends (heat loss is typically 3~5 per second), FAST machines achieve the desired speed by use a patented 'z' linkage which limits the opening distance and a hydraulically latched, springloaded heater plate. Dwell times of less than 2 seconds are typical.
 
POTENTIAL FOR FASTER WELDING
The FAST range of machines have such short dwell times that independent research has suggested that the machines are capable of producing joints with the same integrity as those joints made with standard jointing procedures, but in half the time*. Therefore the range offers the potential to increase productivity without compromising quality.
 
JOINT HISTORY
Up to 250 joints can be stored in the machine memory. These can be downloaded either via the handheld data printer or the data transfer unit on to a PC network analysis.
